Our history - Soc. Agr. Il Sole di La Rocca

The company was founded in 1971 by brothers Nicola and Quirino La Rocca. They started out growing a small amount of vegetables on around 3 hectares of land, and over the years they purchased new land and remained attentive to new market demands. They grew tobacco, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, etc. Today, the company covers about 300 hectares and is run by us, the children of Nicola and Quirino: Federico, Alessio, Elena, and Alessandra. From the field to the table, we follow every step: production, harvesting, storage, processing, packaging, and sale of the products. We have a processing warehouse equipped with cold rooms and an ambitious project: to expand, innovate, and bring ever-increasing quality to your tables. For years, we entrusted our products to agricultural cooperatives, but the desire to bring the full value of our work to consumers prompted us to change course. Today, we personally oversee every stage: from harvesting to packaging to distribution, working directly with large-scale retailers to offer traceable, high-quality products, cultivated with passion and respect, in the spirit of tradition and innovation.

We are also producers of Valdichiana aglione.

Aglione is a variety of Allium ampeloprasum, var. Holmense typical of the Valdichiana. It is distinguished by the size of its cloves, which can weigh up to 70-80 grams each, with bulbs frequently exceeding 500 grams. This product tells an ancient story of farming traditions and shared meals. Its flavor, sweeter and less invasive than common garlic, makes it perfect for enhancing the flavors of Tuscan cuisine without overpowering them. It is a simple ingredient, but one that can make all the difference. Aglione della Valdichiana is currently involved in an official process for DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) recognition to protect its identity and connection to the territory. In addition to aglione, we carefully cultivate potatoes and pumpkins, along with corn, cereals, vineyards, and orchards, in a wide variety of crops that reflect the richness and diversity of our territory. Our land is entirely irrigated, thanks to the presence of artificial reservoirs within the farm, which allow us to manage water resources efficiently. We use drip irrigation systems, a technology that reduces water waste and allows for precise irrigation of crops. We cultivate according to the principles of integrated pest management, to offer healthy and genuine products, respecting the environment and biodiversity. The production area is the Valdichiana Senese, an area that has always been suited to agriculture thanks to the particular composition of the soil, rich in natural elements that contribute to the unique character of our crops.
